How to get from Hue to Phong Nha by bus

Phong Nha is about 250 km away from Hue. It will take around 4-5 hour drive via AH1 from Hue to Phong Nha, the longest and oldest highway in Vietnam. With this route you will see the natural beauty of the country, the mountains, rivers and rice fields. The road is almost empty because only few drivers take this route since it is longer than Ho Chi Minh Trail. You can also take Ho Chi Minh Trail which is a 3-4 hour drive where you’ll see most of the historical places in DMZ area.

Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park became one of favorite travel destinations in Vietnam because of its enormous and wonderful caves.It is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and just got another nomination to maintain its title.

A newly found cave, Dark Cave (Hang Toi), just got opened for public recently. But it has been one of the most visited caves in Phong Nha because of the adventure experience it offers. You can do zip lining and/or kayaking to get close to the cave. You will have to swim to enter the cave and while they go to the center of the cave you’ll enjoy mud bath. Inside the cave is literally dark because management haven’t installed anything yet on the cave for it is also totally new for them, so you’ll have a torch on your helmet.

Paradise cave (Thien Duong cave), was just discovered few years before the Dark Cave. It has been named as the longest dry cave in the world. On the first kilometer of the cave, you can walk through a wooden pathway which has been installed for tourists to easily to get inside and appreciate the first few things about the cave. The cave has been lighted properly so you’ll enjoy the walk. The next kilometers of the cave is a lot challenging and you’ll need a guide and/or a porter to help you out.

The historical importance of the Phong Nha cave is one of the many reasons why this place has been visited a lot. The cave was discovered around 1899 and served many purposes from its day of discovery until to this day. You’ll have to take a dragon boat to get to the PhongNha cave. Before entering the cave, your boatman and his partner, usually wife or another family member will remove the roof of the boat to have a better view of the cave. You’ll be in the boat for another 45 minutes to look around the first kilometer of the cave. Since it has been much earlier than the other caves, lighting on the cave is much better. The management used lighting that will not damage the cave and they did not use fancy colors and lights. They installed it nicely that it still looks natural.The cave is long and big but it is challenging to get to the center of it, boats will not be able to reach it and you’ll need a guide and/or porter to help you out with it.
